FOOD FOR FLOWERHORN

Food for Flowerhorn

The Flowerhorn is not picky eater and will take majority food that being throw to them.
It can be live or dried foods. The live food usually ghost prawn, guppy, gold fish and worm.
There was a lot of dried food in the form of pellet being specially prepared for Flowerhorn . Some focus on growth and some focus on colour and head growth.
They also take frozen bloodworm and brim shrimp.

For me I feed my Flowerhorn with high protein pellet and seldom feed live food because disease prone. Sometime , I feed the live bloodworm once a week but not always.

Some of Flowerhorn kaki's gave their fish prawn either live or market prawn for good colour development . Some extreme player even gave their fish bird nest ......

How to take care Flowerhorn aka luohan?

To start this hobby to keep flowerhorn you will need an aquarium.

I suggest the biggest aquarium you can buy....The smallest aquarium size to keep flowerhorn till it able to show you it full potential is 3'x2'x1.5'(90 cm(L)x60 cm(H)x 45cm(W)). Then you need filter....Flowerhorn is hardy fish and need simple water care. However, i suggest you to invest in complete filter involving mechanical and biological filters in one compartment. This will pay you later when easy and less time consuming to maintain the water and filters. I'm using biohome and coral for filter media to culture good bacteria and Japanese mat and sponge as my mechanical filter.

Then i also using small volcano rock for decoration and it's also act as a toy for my flowerhorn to play with.
Before you introduce the fish into your aquarium, i suggest you run your aquarium filter system for about 1-2 weeks. I usually use  tap water which de-chlorinated with anti chlorine then let the aquarium system run for 1 week to make sure the filter have enough time to culture the good bacteria. Some people using bacteria starter to fasten the process. After that you can released the fish....that it easy right....now you can enjoy your fish.....after that food to fed your fish.......

Kamfa & Pearly

The Flowerhorn or Luohan was introduced to world by Malaysian breeder since late 1990. The fever take off in 2000 when everybody in Malaysia probably own it. However, the fever die off because people get greedy and start produced low quality but sell it high prize and people get frustrated....
Now, there are still few breeder in Malaysia able to produced very good and high grade fish. there are still more hobbyist interested in this fish...

Since 2009 the Malaysia Flowerhorn Association had organized competition and every year it getting bigger and bigger...more than 200 piece of fish participated in last competition...i had won 1 of the categories ( classic kamfa).  Many new hobbyist probably confuse because to many name was given to the Luohan such as golden monkey, king kamfa, red dragon etc etc....However, for our hobbyist in Malaysia we class them into 2 big class either Kamfa or Pearly.
